Peterborough County OPP – Collision Leads to Impaired Charge (Name Released)

Officers from the Peterborough County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual with impaired driving after receiving a report of a three-vehicle collision on Saturday night on Highway 7 in Cavan-Monaghan Township.

On Saturday December 21, 2024, just prior to 10:30pm, the Peterborough County OPP were dispatched to a three-vehicle collision on Highway 7 just north of Morton Line.

Officers arrived on scene and were assisted by Peterborough Police Service (PPS) in closing Highway 7 in an effort to deal with the collision. Officers spoke with one of the vehicle drivers who stated they were travelling northbound behind another vehicle. The vehicle in front suddenly swerved as a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction crossed over the centre line resulting in the collision.

Officers spoke to the driver of the southbound vehicle who was displaying signs of impairment and was arrested.

Amanda RECTOR (age 33) of Campbellford, ON., was arrested and charged with:

·      Operation while impaired

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available

·      Unsafe move – lane or shoulder

·      Fail to notify change of address

The accused had their drivers licence suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on February 4, 2025.

The occupants of one of the vehicles were transported to a local hospital as a precaution.
