Northumberland OPP – Suspect Charged with Arson, Threats, Mischief, Assault

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an individual following a report of property damage.

On December 9, 2024, at around 9:25 a.m., the Municipality of Port Hope Fire and Rescue Services and OPP responded to a report of a vehicle on fire in the area of 4th Line.

Emergency services arrived at the location and ascertained that there were no persons injured as a result of the fire.

Through investigation into the matter, the period leading up to and circumstances surrounding the incident, the fire was found to have started intentionally and as a result, one person was arrested nearby and transported to a local detachment. There were no injuries reported to police.

While at the detachment, the individual damaged property in the cell area.

As a result, a 47-year-old, from the Municipality of Port Hope, has been charged with:

– Arson – damage to property – two counts

– Threats – damage property

– Mischief over $5,000 – two counts

– Dangerous operation

– Driving while under suspension

– Assault

The accused was held for to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg. They shall not be named to protect the identity of the victim.
