Peterborough County OPP – Youth Charged After Causing Disturbance

A 16-year-old youth is facing multiple charges after causing a disturbance at a motel in Peterborough County.

On Thursday December 5, 2024, members of the Peterborough County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call for service regarding a person causing a disturbance at a motel located in Peterborough County.

Officers attended and were informed by the caller that the individual was demanding money that was left as a deposit by another individual. The caller requested police remove the individual from the property.

Officers located the person who provided a false name and date of birth claiming to be 19 years old.

Officers conducted a query of the name provided at which point they realized it was not their actual name. The individual continued to provide false information until the point in which they were arrested.

The individual later provided their actual name and date of birth confirming they were a youth as well as being wanted by another police agency. During a search of the individual, officers located a small quantity of pills as well as a knife.

The youth, who cannot be named due to provisions under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), was arrested and charged with:

Obstruct Peace Officer

Causing a disturbance

Possession of a Schedule I Substance

Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon

Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The accused was held for Bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough.
