Busy Evening for Emergency Services on Highway 401

In Police Blotter

Three separate motor vehicle collisions (MVCs) have been reported on the eastbound lanes of the highway between mile markers 495.5 (Big Apple, Colborne) and 499 (near Brighton).

The first collision involves two transport trucks, obstructing two lanes of live traffic; however, vehicles are currently utilizing the shoulder to pass. The second incident is a collision between another two transports, and the third involves collision between a sedan and tractor trailer. Significant congestion is reported on Highway 401 eastbound.

To mitigate further traffic congestion, Telephone Road, a non-designated truck route, has been closed by the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) and Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to prevent additional truck traffic.

Fire crews are attending to all collision sites.

One transport truck, which sustained rear-end damage, is carrying potassium sulfate, a hazardous material; fire crews are actively monitoring the situation to prevent leaks and ensure public safety.

No serious injuries are reported.
