Durham Regional Police – Thirteen-Year-Old Cyclist Critically Injured

A 13-year-old female was seriously injured after she was struck by a vehicle while riding her bicycle near Rossland Road West and Stevensgate Drive in Ajax.

On Thursday, November 7, 2024, at approximately 7:35 a.m., officers from West Division responded to a collision on Rossland Road West near Stevensgate Drive in Ajax. It was reported that a vehicle had struck a bicycle being ridden by a youth. Officers arrived on scene and located a female cyclist pinned underneath the vehicle. The female was extricated and found to be suffering from extensive injuries.

Paramedics treated the female and she was air-lifted to a Toronto-area trauma centre. She is currently in life-threatening condition.

The investigation determined that a black Hyundai Sante Fe was southbound on Stevensgate Drive approaching Rossland Road West when it struck the cyclist attempting to cross at a marked crosswalk.

The driver of the Hyundai was uninjured and remained on the scene.

Members of the DRPS Traffic Services Branch – Collision Investigation Unit, attended the scene and conducted an investigation. The roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected.
