Peterborough County OPP – Selwyn Township Woman Charged with Impaired (Name Released)

Officers from the Peterborough County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual after receiving a report of a possible impaired driver after their vehicle went into a ditch.

On Saturday November 2, 2024, at approximately 7:15pm, Peterborough County OPP officers received a report of a possible impaired driver on Young’s Point Road. The complainant advised that the vehicle had left the roadway going into the ditch. The complainant stopped to check on the driver who did not want any assistance. The complainant contacted the OPP providing details of what had happened. A second motorist stopped to assist and stayed with the driver until police arrived.

Officers arrived a short time later and after a brief conversation, determined that the driver was under the influence of alcohol at which point they were arrested.

Marliese MARON (age 54) of Selwyn Township, ON., was arrested and charged with:

·      Operation while impaired

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The accused had their drivers licence suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on November 26, 2024.

The Peterborough County OPP reminds motorists to plan ahead when consuming alcohol or drugs. Use a designated driver, cab, public transit, or stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements.
