In Police Blotter

A 44-year-old Peterborough man was arrested on warrants after police conducted a traffic stop in the Town of Cobourg Friday night.

On Friday, November 1, 2024, at approximately 10:00 p.m., police on patrol observed a vehicle parked illegally in front of a residence on John Street in Cobourg. Police learned that the validation sticker was expired, and the registered owner was a suspended driver.

Police conducted a traffic stop, and the driver identified themselves as the registered owner. The driver was unable to provide any documentation. As a result, the driver was charged under the Highway Traffic Act withdriving a motor vehicle with no validation on a plate, failing to surrender a permit for a motor vehicle, and failing to surrender licence.

During the traffic stop, police observed a male passenger trying to conceal himself under a blanket in the front passenger seat and a child in the back.

Police investigation revealed that the man was wanted on numerous unendorsed warrants with CPS and was on a restraining order not to be in contact with the driver and child in the car.

As a result, the 44-year-old Peterborough man was arrested on the three outstanding warrants with CPS and for breaching his restraining order. The accused was charged with the following offences:

1. Disobey Court Order

2. Three counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance

3. Impaired Operation

4. Fail to Attend for Fingerprints

5. Fail to Attend Court

6. Passenger Fail to Wear Seat Belt (HTA)

The accused was held for a bail hearing and remanded into custody.
