Belleville Police Service – Fatal Fire Update, Belleville Man Arrested For Assault, Person Charged for Setting Off Fireworks (Names Released)

Total calls for service – Belleville Police responded to 276 calls for service over a period beginning at 5:00 am on November 1, 2024 to noon on November 4, 2024.

Residential Structure Fire – Update
A joint investigation between police and the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office into the cause of a July fire that claimed the life of a city woman has concluded.

No foul play is suspected in the blaze, which police and firefighters responded to at 4:45 a.m. on July 20, 2024 at 285 Herchimer Avenue.

Belleville resident Adrienne Dracup, 45, of Belleville was found deceased inside the residence.

Members of the Belleville Police Service Criminal Investigative Division and Forensic Identification Unit launched an investigation with the assistance of the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal.

The cause of the fire was determined by OFM to be from an open candle flame.

Belleville Police Service would like to thank members of the Belleville Fire Department’s fire prevention investigative team and the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office for their efforts in this investigation.

20-year-old arrested
Police were called to a report of an argument between several people early Monday at an east end residence which ended in the arrest of a young man.

Upon arrival shortly after 3 a.m., officers determined an involved male was on conditions not to be around the female also involved in the altercation.

He was arrested for failing to comply with an undertaking and held for a bail hearing today.

No names are being released to protect the identity of the victim.

 

Assaulted female, arrested
A 39-year-old Belleville man is being held for a bail hearing after police responded to a report of a female being assaulted on Dundas Street East, Sunday.

Officers arrived at the location shortly after 9 p.m. after receiving calls from the public reporting the incident.

Following an investigation, a male involved was found to be on probation and wanted on outstanding warrants.

He was arrested on the strength of the warrants and held for bail.

 

Fireworks lead to $240 ticket
A 23-year-old city resident picked the wrong ‘random’ street to set off a couple of fireworks Saturday evening.

Police received a call about four people setting off fireworks around 10 p.m. along Sienna Drive. Officers attended and learned the group – specifically the male – believed it would be a good idea to randomly light off fireworks, despite a city bylaw to the contrary.

The male was issued a $240 bylaw ticket for ‘detonating fireworks during a prohibited time’ and sent on his way.

 

Criminal charges following traffic stop
A Belleville man is facing criminal charges following a traffic stop, Friday.

An officer on patrol stopped a motor vehicle on College Street West for a traffic stop around 11:50 p.m.

During the course of the investigation, the driver was arrested for failing to comply with a breath demand and a brief altercation ensued.

The male was further charged with assault with the intent to resist arrest and possession of a Schedule 1 substance (cocaine) under the CDSA.

Charged is Luke Wilson, 35, of Belleville. Wilson was released from custody on a conditions with a November 28, 2024 court date.
