Northumberland OPP – ATV Driver Charged with Impaired After Collision

Officers the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a person with impaired operation causing bodily harm.

On August 4, 2024, at approximately 3:45 p.m., Emergency Medical Services (EMS), the Municipality of Trent Hills Fire Department and OPP responded to a report of a collision involving a flipped all-terrain vehicle (ATV) in the area of Catchmore Road in the Municipality of Trent Hills.

Police arrived at the location where the ATV operator and a child passenger were being treated for injuries as a result of the single vehicle collision. Both persons had been wearing their helmets and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

As a result of the investigation at the scene and speaking with the ATV operator at the hospital, officers entered into an impaired operation investigation. Police made a demand for a breath sample to be provided into an Approved Sc reening Device (ASD). The operator complied with the result of fail at which point they were arrested.

A further demand for blood was made and results are awaited by police.

Injuries are described as non-life threatening and non-life altering.

A 38-year-old female, from the Municipality of Trent Hills, was charged with:

–      Operation while impaired causing bodily harm.

The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date. The individual shall not be named in order to protect the identity of the child.
