Kirkland Lake OPP – Multiple Homicide Investigation

In Police Blotter

Investigators have linked two double homicides in Kirkland Lake to one suspect.

On July 30, 2023, shortly before 4:30 p.m., members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Polic e (OPP) and the District of Timiskaming Emergency Medical Services (EMS) attended a residence on Woods Street for a medical call.

Two individuals, 49-year-old Gabriel MARECKI and 37-year-old Amanda LACHAPELLE, were transported by ambulance to the hospital, where they were both pronounced deceased.

On August 8, 2023, shortly before 8:00 p.m., Kirkland Lake OPP members attended a residence on Kirkpatrick Street for a well-being check. Officers located two deceased individuals, 33-year-old Lea THOMPSON and 37-year-old Kyle ROBERTSON.

OPP investigators have linked the four homicides to one suspect, Martyn (Marty) ROSKO, 38 years old of Kirkland Lake. The suspect has since died and cannot be charged criminally. Had the suspect been alive, compelling grounds exist to charge and prosecute him with murder charges for the four victims.

The OPP recognizes that there has been public interest into these tragic incidents that not only impacted several families, but the entire Kirkland Lake community. We thank the public and media for their patience as we conduct thorough investigations into these deaths.

The investigation is being conducted by the Kirkland Lake OPP Crime Unit and OPP Forensic Identification Services, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

Any person with information regarding this investigation should contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or ontariocrimestoppers.ca.
