A very special trade show will be set up in the Cobourg Staples location, as the business and Entrepreneurship Centre brings back its annual Youth Entrepreneurship Showcase Aug. 14 from 9 a.m. to noon.

This event offers members of the community an opportunity to celebrate the talented craftsmanship and hard work of the young business owners and shop their innovative products and services.

The showcase is made possible for these young entrepreneurs through the BECN’s Summer Company and My Future My Career programs, which offer access to mentorship, business coaching and micro grants to help them launch or grow their own small businesses.

The My Future My Career program is available to children aged eight to 14, with micro grants up to $500.

For students aged 15 to 29, the Summer Company program (with support from the Government of Ontario) offers successful applicants up to $3,000 to help with business expenses.

The showcase is a chance to meet these budding business owners, learn about their products and services, and support local youth-driven enterprises, with their creativity and ambition on full display in everything from handcrafted goods to cutting-edge services.

This year, these include home-made dog treats, mental-health workbook journals, beaded jewelry and buttons, handyman and home-assistance services, dog walking, drone and business-technology services, soy wax candles, baked goods, lawn and garden care, household plants, freezies and cold treats, crocheted and felted buddies, stickers, keychains and buttons.

If you miss the big event, mark Aug. 24 on your calendar, when some of these young entrepreneurs will be showcasing their products at the Cobourg Farmer’s Market Youth Day (from 9 a.m. to noon).
