Military Exercises Planned in Warkworth Area

In City Hall

The area around 12525 Hogan Rd. in Warkworth will be abuzz with activity June 9 to 25, as the Department of National Defence conducts military training exercises on this municipally owned property.

The agreement was brought to Alnwick-Haldimand Township council May 14 for ratification.

The agreement gives the DND responsibility for notifying local emergency services as required and handling public queries, as well as for any environmental damage.

Given that the exercises involve Center Fire/FX ammunition, pyrotechnics and low-level explosives, Councillor Mike Ainsworth urged the township to put the event on social media – not just for public awareness but also to reassure people who live near the site.

“I think the last time this happened, we did some kind of social media-information thing,” Ainsworth said.
