Cobourg Police – Ottawa Man Charged with Transportation Fraud, Trespass, Uttering Threats, Mischief, Cause Disturbance (No Name Released)

A 52-year-old Ottawa man is facing charges after police responded to a disturbance at the train station on Tuesday night.

On Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at approximately 7:10 p.m., police received a report of an unwanted person at the train station in the Town of Cobourg.

The Via Rail Police Service informed Cobourg Police that a train had stopped at the train station. An individual onboard who did not possess a valid ticket refused to identify himself and disembark when asked by staff.

Police escorted the individual off the train, at which point he continued to be verbally aggressive and attempted to flee.

As a result of the investigation, the 52-year-old Ottawa man was arrested and charged with obtaining transportation by fraud, federal trespass – railway (sec 26.1 Railway Safety Act), uttering threats, mischief to property, and causing a disturbance.

The accused is currently wanted on outstanding warrants in other jurisdictions and was held for a bail hearing scheduled for April 10, 2024.
