April will be a month to look forward to summer, as Port Hope’s Capitol Theatre trot out a second annual series of community events to publicize their 2024 Summer Season.

It’s a week-long spree of anticipation, starting April 22 at Port Hope Public Library with the cast of A Year With Frog and Toad (May 17-June 2). The Read and Play With Frog and Toad event from 4 to 7 p.m. features storytime, a sing-along, crafting with Critical Mass and, of course, cookies.

The April 23 Happy Hour High Tea is a launch for the comedy Bed and Breakfast (June 14-30), running from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hotel Carlyle and Restaurant, with the opportunity to meet cast members over drinks, hors d’oeuvres and entertainment (and a chance to tour some of the luxurious rooms).

The April 24 Sip, Shine and Show celebrates The Full Monty (July 12-18), with craft beers and bites from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Ganaraska Brewery. Enjoy a close-up look at classic cars, try your hand at Full Monty trivia and activities, and check out the raffle table.

The April 25 Not-Quite-Christmas bazaar from 6 to 9 p.m. at Port Hope United Church pays tribute to the upcoming world premiere of Christmastown(Aug. 16-Sept.1) with an unseasonal Christmas bazaar, complete with local vendors, Christmas carol karaoke, a live gingerbread contest and photos with Mr. And Mrs. Santa.

The culmination of the week is their second annual Red Carpet Gala on April 27, hosted by Layne, the Auctionista, and featuring Greg Keelor of Blue Rodeo, Jimmy Bowskill of The Sheepdogs and Melissa Payne of The Hicks for an evening of entertainment, a live auction and more.
