Impaired Arrest

A 35-year-old Belleville man is facing charges after an incident Saturday evening.

At approximately 10:55pm on March 16, 2024, officers were made aware of a possible impaired driver.  About 40 minutes later a vehicle matching the description given to police was spotted on George Street in the Townsend Street area pulling into a parking lot.  Officers conducted a traffic stop and noticed signs of impairment with the driver.

As a result of the investigation, a 35-year-old Belleville man was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Driving while under suspension (Highway Traffic Act)

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court April 2, 2024.

 

Failure to Comply With Demand Arrest

A 27-year-old Brampton woman is facing charges after an incident early Sunday morning.

At approximately 1:20am on March 17, 2024, officers heard a loud bang as they were on general patrol in the downtown area.  After heading in the direction of the noise they came upon a smashed parking meter in the Water Street and King Street area.  Officers were told that a vehicle had struck the meter and then continued northbound on Water Street.   The officers caught up to a vehicle matching the description given to police and conducted a traffic stop, noticing signs of impairment with the driver. However, the driver refused to provide a sample.

As a result of the investigation, a 27-year-old Brampton woman was arrested and charged with:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Failure to stop after accident
  • Driver fail to surrender licence (Highway Traffic Act)

The failure or refusal charge carries the same penalties as an impaired charge including license suspension and vehicle impoundment.

The accused was issued a 90-day license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court April 9, 2024.

 

Impaired Arrest

A 32-year-old Hamilton Township woman is facing charges after an incident early Saturday morning.

At approximately 12:40am on March 16, 2024, a concerned citizen called 9-1-1 about a possible impaired driver in the Ashburnham Drive and Lansdowne Street East area after a vehicle with no lights on was spotted swerving all over the road, hitting a pole, and continuing to drive with the front bumper hanging off before it pulled into a parking lot.  Officers arrived at the parking lot and conducted a traffic stop during which they noticed signs of impairment with the driver.

As a result, a 32-year-old Hamilton Township woman was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was issued a 90-day license suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court April 2, 2024.

 

RIDE Program

The Peterborough Police Service conducted RIDE check stops at five locations over the weekend (Saturday, March 16, 2024 and Sunday, March 17, 2024).

In total:

  • 885 vehicles were stopped
  • 10 Roadside tests (8 pass; 1 warn)
  • 1 Novice Driver was issued a 3-day suspension

 

Break and Enter Suspect Sought

The Peterborough Police Service is investigating after a break and enter at a rural residence in the Township of Cavan-Monaghan.

The incident happened on Saturday, March 16, 2024 between noon and 4:00pm at a residence in the Fallis Line and Tapley Quarter Line area while no one was home.  During the investigation, officers noted that a side door had been pried open and a window had been smashed.   Several bedrooms had been ransacked and approximately $5000 in jewellery was reported stolen.

Arson Arrest

A 45-year-old Peterborough woman wanted on a warrant in connection with a fire in the Hunter Street and Bethune Street area March 5, 2024 has been arrested.

The woman was arrested by OPP in the Barry’s Bay, ON area on the warrant, brought back to Peterborough and charged with:

  • Arson – Disregard for human life

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court today, March 18, 2024.

Robbery Arrest

A 25-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after an incident in Peterborough Sunday afternoon.

At approximately 1:30pm on March 17, 2024, officers were called about a street-level robbery in the area of Murray Street and Aylmer Street. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim who indicated they were punched and had their backpack stolen.  A man matching the description given to police was spotted a short time later and taken into custody.   The victim refused medical treatment.

As a result of the investigation, a 25-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Robbery with violence

The accused is being held in custody and will appear in court today, March 18, 2024.
