Durham Region Police – Vehicle Crashes into Home After Break and Enter at Bank

Two males are in custody after breaking into a bank and fleeing police in Ajax.

On Sunday, March 3, 2024, at approximately 11:20 p.m., members of West Division responded to a break-and-enter call at the Scotiabank located at 15 Westney Road North, in Ajax.  Bank security contacted police when they observed multiple males with various tools attempting to break into the ATM.  Officers arrived at the bank and located a suspicious vehicle.  Police attempted to block the vehicle but it fled the area and a short pursuit was initiated. 

In an attempt to flee, the suspect vehicle drove through two backyards and collided with a nearby residence.  The driver was taken into custody without incident. 

No persons inside the residence were physically injured.  The driver was transported to a local area hospital with minor injuries.  The residence is still being assessed for structural integrity as the damage from the collision was significant.

Alejandro CASTRO DIAZ, age 28 is charged with: Break-and-Enter, and Participate in Criminal Organization.

Omar BURGOS BURGOS, age 39 is charged with: Flight from Peace Officer, Break-and-Enter Dwelling, and Participate in Criminal Organization.

Both males recently arrived in Canada from Chile.  They were held for a bail hearing.
