Durham Region Police Suspect Charged with Impaired Driving with Firearm Attempting to Flee Police (Name Released)

A male has been arrested after attempting to flee police while impaired by alcohol and in possession of a firearm.

 On Saturday, January 27, 2024, at approximately 8:20 a.m., members of West Division responded to a suspicious vehicle call at the intersection of Westney Road and Curtis Gate in Ajax.  The caller reported a white Mercedes being stopped at the intersection, with its engine running for over 30 minutes. 

 Officers blocked the Mercedes and approached the vehicle when it attempted to flee.  The Mercedes struck several cruisers, but was unable to flee.  Officers removed the driver and took him into custody without incident.  A firearm was located on the male during his arrest.  The driver sustained minor injuries from the collision and was transported to a local area hospital.  No officers sustained any physical injuries.

 Uriah EDUSEI-NEEDHAM, age 24 from Pickering is charged with numerous offences including: Impaired Operation, Impaired Operation – Exceed Blood Alcohol Concentration, Dangerous Operation, Possess a Loaded Restricted/Prohibited Firearm, Occupy Motor vehicle with Firearm, and Fail to Comply with Probation order.
