Northumberland OPP – Cobourg Man Facing Numerous Charges After Driving Wrong Way On Highway 401 (Name Released)

On December 25, 2023, at approximately 2:10 a.m., OPP was made aware of a pick-up truck travelling the wrong way on Highway 401 from Trenton to Northumberland. The vehicle initially failed to stop for police. Northumberland OPP stopped the vehicle travelling westbound in the eastbound lanes on Highway 401 within The Municipality of Brighton.

Matthew WORKMAN, 37-years-old, from Cobourg, has been charged with:

  • Dangerous Operation
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Fail to stop for Police
  • Drive wrong way – divided highway
  • Having care or control of a motor vehicle with liquor readily available
  • Fail to notify change of address.
