Cobourg Police – Cobourg Man Charged with Theft, Assault with a Weapon, Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest and Uttering Threats (No Name Released)

A 22-year-old Cobourg man is facing charges after police responded to theft from a business.

On Friday, October 27, 2023, at approximately 11:00 a.m., police responded to a business on Division Street in Cobourg for a report of a shoplift in progress.

Police were advised a man had left the store with unpaid merchandise. When confronted by staff, the male suspect threw items at staff and assaulted a staff member.

As a result of the investigation, a 22-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, assault with a weapon, assault with intent to resist arrest, and uttering threats.

Property was recovered by staff and returned to the store.

The accused was held for a show cause hearing.
