Cobourg’s Kate Current has been named to Canada’s team for the Pan-Am Games, which will be held October 20th to November 5th in Santiago, Chile.

Current will compete in the women’s 1,500 metre run just as she did at the World Championships in Budapest last month. This will be the third time this year the former Cobourg Collegiate Institute runner has represented Canada in international competition. She also competed at the World Cross Country Championships back in February in Australia.

The Port Hope Panthers earned their first win of the Provincial Junior Hockey League season in convincing fashion Saturday night, downing the visiting Amherstview Jets 7-2 at the Jack Burger Sports Complex.

Josh Sainthill led the way offensively with three goals and an assist while Isaac Langdon scored twice and Brandon Rose and Noah Richard added single tallies.

The Panthers led 2-0 after the first period and 3-1 after before pulling away with four straight goals in the third.

Port Hope is back in action tonight against the Frankford Huskies. Game time is 6:50 at Frankford Arena.

The Cobourg Cougars dropped a 6-4 decision to the Toronto Junior Canadiens in Ontario Junior Hockey League action Sunday night in Toronto.

The Jr. Canadiens never trailed in the contest, but Cobourg did rally from 3-1 and 4-2 deficits to even the score with four and a half minutes to play. Toronto answered back 24 seconds later and added an empty net goal to secure the victory.

Kaiden Harmon and Logan Kelly tallied their first goals of the season for the Cougars while Trevor Hoskin and Tyler Hunt also scored.

There is no regular Monday night home game for the Cougars tonight. Cobourg heads to the OJHL Governors Showcase in Buffalo for regular season games Wednesday and Thursday.
