City of Kawartha Lakes OPP – Traffic Stop Leads to Weapon and Drug Related Charges (Names Released)

 Members of the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested four individuals who were charged with drug and weapon related offences when drugs, a taser, brass knuckles and pepper spray were located during a traffic stop.

On August 23, 2023 shortly after 4:00 am officers, while on patrol in Bobcaygeon, stopped a vehicle for a driving related offence, which prompted an investigation into the Liquor Licence Act. The driver was also determined to be prohibited. As a result of the investigation a variety of weapons and drugs, including fentanyl, hydromorphone, oxycodone, cocaine and alprazolam were seized and four persons charged.

Aliza Hotchkins, 41 years of age, of Bobcaygeon has been charged with:

·      Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking

·      Possession of a Prohibited Device

 

Preston Huges, 40 years of age, of Bobcaygeon has been charges with:

·      Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking

·      Possession of a Prohibited Device

Christopher Ferguson, 44 years of age, of Bobcaygeon has been charged with:

·      Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking

·      Possession of a Prohibited Device

 

Melissa Ferrier, 33 years of age, of Lindsay has been charged with:

·      Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking

·      Possession of a Prohibited Device

·      Operation While Prohibited

·      Driving Motor Vehicle with Liquor Readily Available

·      Disobey Stop Sign

The vehicle was impounded for 45 days.

The accused are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on September 28, 2023.
