SIU Investigating Death of Man in Peterborough

In Police Blotter
The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 28-year-old man this afternoon in Peterborough.
Preliminary information suggests the following:
  • At approximately 2:15 p.m. on August 11, 2023, a Peterborough Police Service officer was traveling on Parkhill Road West when he observed a vehicle being operated in a careless manner.
  • The officer attempted to stop the vehicle.
  • Shortly after, that vehicle became involved in a single-vehicle collision in the area of Towerhill Road and Chemong Road.
  • The driver of the vehicle – a 28-year-old man – entered the Peterborough Volkswagen dealership and became involved in an interaction with staff.
  • When officers entered the dealership, the man – who appeared to be armed – consumed a substance.
  • At some point, the man went vital signs absent and first-aid was administered. He was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Four investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.
The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation, including video or photos, to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or online at: https://siu.on.ca/en/appeals.php
