A 39-year-old Cobourg man has been charged with public mischief and obstructing a peace officer after police respond to a report of a break-and-enter in Cobourg.

On Sunday, July 30, 2023, at 5:45 a.m., police received a call for a break-and-enter in progress at a residence on Division Street, just north of University Avenue that was deemed unsafe after a multi-agency inspection on Friday, July 28, 2023.

Upon arrival, officers spoke to the complainant, who said he believed someone had entered the residence because the back door was ajar.

Officers reviewed video footage of the area and identified the complainant as the individual responsible for the alleged break-and-enter.

The accused was released on an undertaking with a future court date.
