Rough Edge Wins Co-ed Gold Medal in B Division Broomball Canadian Championship

Grafton Co-Ed Broomball League entry Rough Edge took their team to the Canadian Nationals last week. A first place finish last year at the Ontario Provincials punched their ticket for this years event. This years provincial team produced a 4th place finish last month.

The team is comprised of representatives from the 5 team league totaling about half of the squad that went to Montreal for the event.

First up last week, Rough Edge faced New Brunswick and took a tough opening loss 3-2.

Game two later that day saw them face Saskatchewan and got the 2-1 Overtime win. Locals Ryan Giroux and Taylor Woodrow got the goals.

Next they faced Quebec’s Gladiateurs, last years National Champs and lost a squeaker 2-1.

Rebounding Rough Edge exploded offensively when they beat Alberta 6-1.

Facing another Quebec entry, Rough Edge lost the next morning’s game 2-1.

Later that day they faced Alberta again in the semi-final and went big to earn a berth in the ‘B’ division final by a score of 7-2. Ryan Giroux had a hat trick, Taylor Woodrow had 2 and Karli Voskamp had a single.

In a hard played match, Rough Edge played the final vs Hillbillies from Ontario. RE went up 1-0 in the first two minutes before giving up the tying goal, then every time they scored, Hillbillies came back. In the last two minutes, RE went up for the last time and won the ‘B’ Gold medal.
