The Municipality of Port Hope is hosting a public Climate Reality Talk on Thursday, March 23 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Port Hope High School on climate impacts and solutions for the Port Hope community.
The Municipality is pleased to welcome guest speaker Grant Linney, a presenter for the Climate Reality Project Canada to discuss climate effects and what it means for our community. Mr. Linney is a trained and experienced presenter with Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project. Since 2010, he has delivered more than 800 presentations to a wide variety of audiences. He has attended eight Al Gore trainings, seven of them as a mentor for new trainees.
“The world’s current climate is a crisis impacting us all and Port Hope is no exception to the effects of climate change,” notes Olena Hankivsky, Mayor for the Municipality of Port Hope. “Informing our community and working with them to develop a robust Climate Action Plan is crucial. I encourage residents of all ages to attend this event as we work to build a more sustainable future for Port Hope.”
In December 2022, Council for the Municipality of Port Hope unanimously declared a climate emergency for the purposes of naming, framing, and deepening our commitment to protecting our economy, our eco systems, and our community from climate change. Now, Members of Council and the Environmental Advisory Committee want to help connect the dots between this declaration and the development of future climate action plans for Port Hope.
“One of the Environmental Advisory Committee’s primary roles is to help draft a Climate Action Plan for Port Hope,” notes Penny Nutbrown, Chair of the Environmental Advisory Committee “In order to create an effective plan that all local stakeholders can get behind, residents are invited to help identify key priorities and share ideas about how climate goals can be met. The Climate Reality Talk is the first event in this process.”
The Port Hope Environmental Advisory Committee was formed in 2022 to provide perspectives and advice to Council relative to the preservation, growth and sustainability of the overall landscape and natural infrastructure of the Municipality.
