Durham Regional Police – Female Charged in Providing Therapy Under False Pretences

Police have charged a female with fraud-related offences after she provided unlicensed Psychotherapy sessions to multiple members of the community.

Between May 31, 2022, and June 21, 2022, the suspect provided unlicensed Psychotherapy sessions at a Clinic located in Whitby. The suspect was not certified with the Ontario College of Social Services and Social Service Workers to provide mental health care.  She provided a total of 26 sessions using a false identity.

Katayoon MASOUMI RAD, age 32, of Vaughan is charged with numerous fraud-related charges, including: Fraud Under $5000; Personation to Gain Advantage; False Pretences; Forgery; Utter/Use Forged Document; Breach 810 Peace Bond and False Representation, contrary to Social Work and Social Service Work Act.  

MASOUMI RAD may have used the following aliases when providing the sessions including Kathy MASOUMI RAD, Kathy M. GUIMOND, Kathy MASOUMIRAD GUIMOND, Kathy MEHRANIAN, and Kathy M. RAD.  

The clinic and the Ontario College of Social Services and Social Service Workers have cooperated with investigators in relation to this investigation. Police also encourage members of the community seeking mental health assistance to review the Ontario College of Social Services and Social Service Workers to identify potential unregulated practitioners (www.ocswssw.org/public/unregulated-practitioners/).  

 

Investigators would like to speak with anyone who received sessions from MASOUMI RAD. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to Central West Division Criminal Investigation Branch at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1825.
