St. Mary Set to Host OFSAA Rugby Championships in Cobourg

The first of two Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) rugby championships kicks off Monday in Cobourg.

St. Mary Catholic Secondary School is hosting the girls A/AA provincial high school championship Monday to Wednesday and the boys championship Thursday through Saturday. Games will also be played at Westwood Park, home of the Cobourg Saxons.

On Monday, the St. Mary Thunder girls team will open its schedule at 9 a.m. against Oakville’s Thomas A. Blakelock High School and then will face FE Madill Secondary School from Wingham at 4 p.m. Both opening day matchups in pool play for the Thunder will be played at the St. Mary field.

Only the top teams from each of the four pools will remain in medal contention heading into the second day of competition.

Championship semifinals are scheduled for 2 p.m. and 3 p.m, Tuesday at St. Mary. There will also be ranking games and consolation semifinals at the school earlier in the day.

On Wednesday, the consolation final is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary followed by the bronze medal match at 11 a.m. and the championship final at 12:30 p.m.
