Port Hope House Tour Launches Spring Walking Tours

In Upcoming Events

Tickets are now on sale for the Port Hope House Tour Spring Walking Tours. Scheduled on Saturdays from May 7th to June 4th, with morning and afternoon tour times. This year they are offering three tours, a King Street tour and two tours of the Downtown Heritage District.

Each tour is approximately 90 minutes and will have information on the homes, businesses, streets and general history that has created the unique fabric of the town. Armed with a knowledgeable volunteer guide and a printed map, guests will enjoy a leisurely journey into the past.

Last year the Downtown Heritage District Walking Tour was extremely popular and the committee decided to divide the tour up between Downtown North-South and Downtown East-West to cover more ground. These tours will alternate on Saturday mornings at 10am. The North-South tour will feature 25 properties mostly on John, Queen and Ontario Streets. While the East-West will focus on 40 properties along Walton Street. Both of these tours will cover some existing content from previous tours but also some brand-new info as well.

The King Street tour will be scheduled at 2pm on Saturdays and according to the website will feature ‘more than 30 properties and points of interest including St. Mark’s Church (which is celebrating it’s 200th anniversary) and several homes related to the history of the Smith Family.’

With so much content related to these tours, it is hard to contain it within the 90 minutes allotted. So, the group also has a corresponding self-guided app which can be downloaded for free prior to the tour on a link on the website. This houses additional historic photos and videos and all of the text related to each property to enhance the overall experience. It also has an audio component so if you missed some of the details on the tour, you can go back and re-walk it at any time.

Can’t make the Spring Walking tours? The group is also offering these again in the late summer/early fall, to correspond with the launch of their second Virtual Port Hope House Tour scheduled to be available Saturday October 1st, 2022.

Tickets for the Walking tours are $15, and available on the Port Hope House Tour website now www.porthopehousetour.com/guided-walking-tours-of-port-hope. The proceeds for the walking tours will go towards heritage projects in Port Hope.
