The 54-game Ontario Junior Hockey League regular season will come to an end Monday night for the Cobourg Cougars.
Heading into the final contest with a 28-18-1-6 record, the Cougars will host the Trenton Golden Hawks (35-15-0-2). Game time is 7 p.m. at the Cobourg Community Centre.
Cobourg has won three straight games, including a 3-1 victory Friday night in Lindsay against the Muskies.
Zach Smith opened the scoring with a power play goal in the first period and Charlie Da Fonseca, who scored shorthanded, and Aidan Carolan added to the lead in the second.
Goaltender Justin Easter made 27 saves in the Cougars win with the only blemish a power-play goal by Lindsay’s William Everson with just over five minutes remaining in the third.
On Sunday night, the Golden Hawks were defeated 3-1 by the Muskies. That decision means the Wellington Dukes clinched first place in the OJHL’s East Division. The Dukes and Cougars will meet in a first-round best-of-three playoff series.
