George Krotiris scored shorthanded in the second overtime period and assisted on two other goals to lift the Cobourg Cougars to a 3-2 win on the road Saturday evening against the Mississauga Chargers.
Cobourg led by a goal twice earlier in the contest with Parker Hendsbee opening the scoring near the nine-minute mark of the first period and Charlie Da Fonseca, on a power play, putting the Cougars in front 2-1 just over four minutes into the middle frame.
The score was even at two before the six-minute mark of the second and continued that way through the third period and first extra frame played at 4-on-4, continuing into the second overtime at 3-on-3.
Cobourg was down a man after Zach Smith was called for slashing with 31 seconds left in the first overtime.
Krotiris completed his three-point outing with the shorthanded winner 1:12 into double-overtime.
Goaltender Mason Vaccari stopped 36 of the 38 shots he faced to earn the win in net for the Cougars.
Monday night, the Cougars (28-16-1-6) will host the Caledon Admirals (7-44-0-1). Game time is 7 p.m. at the Cobourg Community Centre.
