Cobourg Police – Selective Traffic Enforcement Project (STEP) – February 2022 Results

The Cobourg Police Service (CPS) is committed to keeping our community roadways safe for drivers, passengers, and pedestrians through education and enforcement. CPS has enhanced traffic patrols with the Selective Traffic Enforcement Project (STEP); the project focuses on a different topic each month.

STEP for February was speeding and speeding related infractions, including driving over the posted speed limits, unsafe move (lane change, driving or passing on the shoulder etc.), careless driving, and stunt driving.

A total of 101 Provincial Offence Notices (PONs) were issued in February. The charges and breakdown of statistics
are as follows:
• 69 charges for speeding

Other Highway Traffic Act charges included:
• Distracted Driving: 10

• Red Light – Fail to Stop: 2

• Disobey Stop Sign – Fail to Stop: 2

• Disobey Stop Sign – Stop Wrong Place: 1

• Amber Light – Fail to Stop: 1

• Drive Wrong Way – One Way Traffic: 1

• Improper Left Turn: 1

• Improper Number Plate Light: 2

• Use Plate Not Authorized for Motor Vehicle: 2

• No Clear View to Rear: 1

• Fail to Surrender Insurance Card: 5

• Fail to Surrender Drivers Licence: 1

• Fail to Produce Permit: 1

• Class G1 Licence Holder – Unaccompanied By Qualified Driver: 1

• Unnecessary Noise: 1

Police remind motorists to always follow posted speed limits and be extra cautious in residential areas and community safety zones. Thank you to everyone who continues to drive safely.
