In honour of March For Meals – and looking ahead to the Easter holiday – Community Care Northumberland is selling Easter-themed cookie boxes in support of its Meals On Wheels program.

Each box contains seven individually wrapped and beautifully decorated Easter cookies from Roda’s Kitchen. About $7 from each $20 purchase will support the Meals On Wheels program that delivers both hot and frozen meals to Community Care clients throughout the county.

“March, which is National Nutrition Month and the annual March For Meals Month, is a key time for us to raise awareness in our community about the importance of our Meals On Wheels program,” CCN Executive Director Trish Baird said in the news release.

“We are happy to gather with our local mayors, volunteers and others from the community for March For Meals – this year, the week of March 28 to 31 – and we are excited to run this cookie fundraiser which will help further support the nutritional needs of our clients and community members, as well as continue to raise awareness about this important program.”

The hot meals are prepared locally and delivered several times weekly at the noon hour by local volunteers. The frozen meals are easy to prepare and cater to several diet types. Both are delivered to clients’ doors by CCN volunteers or staff members. In the 2019-2020 year, the program saw 38,347 meals delivered to 792 clients.

You can order your cookie boxes through April 8 by visiting www.commcare.ca or calling the Donor Relations Office at 905-885-0466. Upon ordering, you can select the pickup date and which local CCN office throughout the county you prefer to pick up your order from.
