Cobourg Police – Man Charged with Assault (No Name Released)

On Thursday, March 10, 2022, at 8:55 a.m., police were called to a residence in the area of Ontario Street and Sutherland Crescent for a report of a disturbance. The complainant informed police that his son attended the home uninvited and assaulted a woman in the home, and took cash from her. When the caller tried to intervene, he was assaulted. The son left the residence on foot.

With the assistance of the Belleville Police Service K9 Unit, police searched for the man without success.

On Tuesday, March 15, 2022, police located the man near Burnham Street and King Street West. The 30-yearold Cobourg man was arrested and charged with the following offences:

1. Being Unlawfully in Dwelling House, contrary to Section 349(1) of the Criminal Code

2. Assault Cause Bodily Harm, contrary to Section 267(c) of the Criminal Code

3. Assault, contrary to Section 266 of the Criminal Code

4. Robbery, contrary to Section 344(1)(b) of the Criminal Code

5. Fail to Comply with Order, contrary to Section 145(5)(a) of the Criminal Code

6. Two counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order, contrary to Section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code

The man was remanded into custody with a future court date of March 22, 2022.

The name of the accused will not be released to protect the identity of the victim.
