Cobourg Police – Suspect Faces Seven Criminal Charges Including Theft and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (No Name Released)

On Sunday, February 20, 2022, at 3:30 p.m., police were called to a business near the intersection of Albert Street and Third Street in Cobourg for a report of a theft. The complainant advised police that a man left the store without paying for items.

Upon reviewing video surveillance footage, police were able to identify a person of interest.

On Thursday, February 24, 2022, at 12:10 a.m. police on general patrol observed the man leaving a business on King Street East with two shopping bags.

As a result of the police investigation, the man was arrested a short distance away. Upon arrest, police located a stolen credit card, items purchased with the credit card, and a small quantity of suspected fentanyl. The 29-year-old Cobourg man was charged with the following offences:

1. Theft Under $5000- Contrary to Section 334(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada

2. Four counts of Fail to Comply with Probation- Contrary to Section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada

3. Three counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000-Contrary to Section 355(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada

4. Two counts of Unauthorized use of credit card contrary to Section 342(1)(c) of the Criminal Code of Canada

5. Fraud under $5,000 contrary to Section 380(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada

6. Two counts of Fraud under $5,000 contrary to Section 380(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada

7. Possession of a Controlled Substance to wit Fentanyl – Contrary to Section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

The accused was remanded into custody with a court date on February 28, 2022.
