Quarterly staff-recognition ceremonies were a pre-COVID highlight of Northumberland County council meetings.

Though they now take place on Zoom, Chief Administrative Officer Jennifer Moore said at this week’s meeting, the gratitude is no less heartfelt.

Forty employees and retirees, with terms of service ranging from five to 36 years, were recognized.

It’s important for the organization to say thank you to those who strife each day to achieve our common vision,” Moore said.

Eleven employees reached five-year milestones – six at the Golden Plough Lodge and two each in Corporate Services, Northumberland Paramedics and Public Works.

Five employees have worked at the county for 10 years – three at the Plough and one each in Finance and Public Works.

Four were honoured for 15 years of service – two in Public Works and one each in Community and Social Services and Economic Development, Tourism and Planning.

Two employees have worked 20 years, both at the Golden Plough Lodge.

One paramedic has worked for 30 years, and one Plough employee for 35.

The largest group consisted of 15 recent retirees who were also honoured – one after 23 years in Community and Social Services, one after seven years in Economic Development, Tourism and Planning, three paramedics with terms of service ranging from 30 to 36 years, and three from Public Works having worked from one to 21 years. There were also seven Golden Plough Lodge employees who worked between 20 and 35 years.

Each honouree will receive a commemorative gift as an expression of appreciation from both council and their colleagues, Moore said.
