Port Hope native Dominika Jamnicky placed second in the women’s elite race on Sunday at the 2021 Americas Triathlon Championships in St. George, Utah.
Jamnicky completed the swim-bike-run event with a strong performance in 2 hours 6 minutes 57 seconds, just behind the winner Gina Sereno (2:06:51) from the United States.
“It’s always an honour to race Pan Am Champs. After a year of sub-par performances I’m happy to come away with a podium today,” Jamnicky was quoted in a post on Triathlon Canada’s social media. “Our group was able to catch the lead group and then after that it was just about resting the legs to try and have the fastest run off the bike as possible. I was really confident in my running abilities today and happy to walk away with a performance that I worked hard for and am proud of.”
As previously reported, Jamnicky was an alternate for the Canadian triathlon team at the Olympics in Tokyo this past summer. Recently she placed sixth at the Canadian 10K running championships in Toronto.
