The Caledon Admirals made a third-period push, but the visiting Cobourg Cougars held on for a 6-4 victory in Ontario Junior Hockey League action Saturday night.

The Cougars (5-3-0-0) had five different scorers in recording their third straight win while the Admirals remain winless (0-9-0-0) after nine games.

Kallaway Mercer scored twice for Cobourg, including his third straight game-winning goal, and now has six goals and three assists in five games since joining the club.

Andy Reist, Tai York, Jacob Gilbert and George Krotiris also scored in the win.

The Cougars led 2-0 after the first period, 3-2 after the second and were up 5-2 before the five-minute mark of the third.

Only the first four of the 10 goals in the game were scored at even strength.

Sebastian Bulovs’ second goal of the second period for the Admirals was a power play marker.

Gilbert and Mercer’s goals early in the third period were on man-advantage opportunities while Caledon’s Ethan Lewis scored shorthanded and his teammate

Ray Hou scored on a power play to cut the deficit to one with a little under eight minutes still to play in regulation time.

Krotiris rounded out the Cobourg scoring with an empty-net goal in the final minute of play.

Goaltender Mason Vaccari made 23 saves to earn the victory in net for Cobourg.

Next up for the Cougars is a Monday night match-up at 7:30 p.m. against the St. Michael’s Buzzers (4-4-0-0) as they host the OJHL’s Governors Showcase at the Cobourg Community Centre.

The Cougars also have a 3 p.m. game Wednesday against the North York Rangers (9-1-1-0) at the CCC.
