On the 22nd day of October 2021, at approximately 4:38 am, members of the Cobourg Police Service attended the area of King Street West to respond to a report of a suspicious person who appeared to be searching for unlocked motor vehicles. Trespass by Night contrary to section 177 of the Criminal Code;
Fail to Comply with Probation contrary to section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code
DOHERTY-BOWEN was released from Police custody on an Appearance Notice with an impending court date.
The fight against auto theft and theft from vehicles involves the cooperation of many partners. It starts with automobile owners and includes law enforcement, automobile manufacturers, dealers of new and used cars, automobile insurers, theft deterrent systems manufacturers and installers and the judicial system. The following tips are offered to assist in preventing thefts from vehicles:
Don’t make your vehicle and easy target:
• Never leave a vehicle running when unattended;
• Lock the doors and close all windows when parked;
• Make sure to park in well-lit areas or in the garage where possible;
• Use a visible or audible device that shows a vehicle is protected;
• Don’t leave valuables in view in your car;
• Don’t leave personal information in the glove box when parked.
