A three-point night from Isaac Pascoal and 28-save shutout from goaltender Carter Tahk paced the Cobourg Cougars to a 4-0 win over the visiting Lindsay Muskies in Ontario Junior Hockey League action Monday night.

Pascoal, who now has three goals and three assists in three games, scored the lone goal of the second period to put the Cougars up 3-0 at the Cobourg Community Centre while also drawing assists on his club’s second and fourth goals as well.

Trevor Hoskin tallied his first OJHL goal at the 10:56 mark of the opening period and it proved to be enough offence as the 17-year-old was credited with the game-winning tally. Liam Filip earned an assist on the play.

Twenty-year-old Steven Whittle, who scored 14 goals with Trenton and Oakville during the 2019-20 season, notched his first with the Cougars with a little over a minute to play in the first period. Caleb Thompson and Pascoal registered assists.

The penalty-filled affair resulted in no power play goals (Cobourg 0-for-7, Lindsay 0-for-6), but George Krotiris did turn a Cougars disadvantage into a goal as he scored shorthanded, assisted by Pascoal, at the 16:42 mark of the third while teammate Noah Prudhomme was serving a roughing penalty, his fourth trip to the box and fifth infraction in the contest.

Tahk, who turns 20 later this month, was steady in goal and a big save late to preserve the shutout. It was his second straight victory after backstopping the Cougars the overtime victory against the Wellington Dukes on Saturday.

Cobourg’s Logan Kelly, an affiliated player from the Port Hope Panthers, made his OJHL debut in Monday’s win over the Muskies.

The Cougars (2-1-0-0) are off now until next Monday, Oct. 11 when they welcome the Trenton Golden Hawks (2-0-0-0) and look to avenge the season-opening 9-5 defeat. Game time is 7 p.m. at the CCC.
