Cobourg Police – Man Arrested for Impaired Operation

In Police Blotter

Driver arrested for impaired driving after police respond to report of a motor vehicle collision.

On August 20, 2021, police were dispatched to the intersection of John Street and James Street East for a report of
a single motor vehicle collision. A vehicle was observed travelling southbound on John Street, where it struck a
street sign and pole.

As a result of police investigation, the driver, 38-year-old Cobourg resident Jason SEGUIN, was arrested and charged
with the following offences:

Operation while impaired – alcohol contrary to section 320.14 (1)(a) of the Criminal Code

Drive while under suspension contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act

The accused was released from custody on an appearance notice and summons with a future court date.

Cobourg Police encourage the public to report suspected impaired driving by calling 911. Impaired driving is the #1
criminal cause of death in Canada and, yet, every impaired driving crash is preventable. By calling 911 and reporting
suspected impaired drivers to police, everyone can play a role in keeping our roads and waterways safe and in
reducing impaired driving crashes, deaths and injuries.

Always plan for a safe way to get home by calling a friend, a relative, a cab, or designating a sober driver.
