City of Kawartha Lakes OPP – Over 2,000 Cannabis Plants Seized

Members of the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) seized 2,274 plants under a Cannabis Act (CA) warrant that interrupted the illegal production of cannabis at a local property.

On August 8, 2021, City of Kawartha Lakes OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), with assistance from Haliburton Highlands, Peterborough and Northumberland CSCU along with Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) and local fire, executed a CA related warrant at a property on Morton Ln in Sebright. The plants seized were the equivalent of 2 dump trucks full and worth a total estimated value of $2,274,000. Two ounces of Cannabis resin (approximate estimated value of $560) and 7 grams of cocaine (approximate estimated value of $700) were also seized. Along with, an RV mobile home, an ATV and a prohibited weapon.

Two persons were located and charged as a result of this investigation;

Nick ELLIOTT, 46 years of age of Norwood has been charged with;

  • Cultivate, propagate or harvest any cannabis plant at a place that is not their dwelling-house (or offer to do so)
  • Possession for the purpose of distributing.  

Donald HALL, 59 years of age of Centre Hastings, has been charged with;

  • Unauthorized Possession of a weapon
  • Possession of a schedule I substance – Cocaine
  • Cultivate, propagate or harvest any cannabis plant at a place that is not their dwelling-house (or offer to do so)
  • Possession for the purpose of distributing. 

The accused are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on September 9, 2021.
