Art Gallery of Northumberland Announces Opening Reception for Playing with Fire and Ice

In entertainment, Upcoming Events

The Art Gallery of Northumberland (AGN) invites the public to the opening reception for our current exhibition Playing with Fire and Ice by visual artist Amy Shackleton and graphic designer/animator Julian Brown. Join us on Saturday, 21 August, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. in the AGN’s Permanent Collection gallery located on the third floor, West Wing of Victoria Hall.

In this collaborative exhibition, Shackleton has created a 50-foot-long mural depicting the lasting effects of climate change in Canada. Images of melting glaciers float amongst architectural elements, which are also met by the scorched limbs of a burning forest. Complete with the use of her signature drip painting technique, Shackleton transformed the Gallery’s walls into a fully immersive experience.

Stay grounded within the imagery or take one step further with Brown’s Augmented Reality experience. With the use of a smart device, viewers will be able to digitally extend the environment with animated forms of water and ice cascading from their screen.

As Northumberland County’s largest public art gallery, the AGN plays a leading role on local, regional and national stages through exceptional exhibitions, programs and collaborations. It strives to be an inspiring institution that serves as an educational resource, a hub of artistic and cultural energies for local citizens, and a tourist attraction for all audiences
