Cobourg Council – DBIA Finds The Beach is Not Necessarily A Boon

In City Hall

It just so happened that Victoria Park beach reopening parameters were the top choice in a Downtown Business Improvement Area poll shared with Cobourg council this week.

“Open full-time with numbers monitored and limited” was the top choice with 62.22% of respondents.

But to Deputy Mayor Suzanne Seguin, that was not the big news from the poll. It was another question – to what extent does your business benefit from visitors to the beach.

It’s something she often wonders, and it’s something that is often cited when people talk about the tourism benefit of this amazing asset.

With only 49 respondents, Seguin allowed, “it’s a very small sample obviously.

“But the answers were A Great Deal 26%, A Lot 4%, A Moderate Amount 10%, A Little 12% and None At All 46.94%.

“I found that interesting, even though the sampling was small. I just wanted to point that out.”
