Local Arts Organizations Collaborate in Support of Arts Education

In Upcoming Events

The Art Gallery of Northumberland (AGN) and Film Access Northumberland (FAN) are thrilled to announce a partnership in support of Spotlight Series 3 and FAN’s first annual Eye2Eye International Film Festival. The not-for-profit arts organizations share aligned visions for connecting local artists with audiences and will share a space at the Downtown Cobourg Pedestrian Friendly Walkway on Friday, August 20th and Saturday, August 21st from 11am to 4pm. Each organization will lead creative art workshops to engage with the community.

On Sunday, August 29th at 8pm, FAN will showcase Spotlight Series 3 at its inaugural Eye2Eye International Film Festival at Victoria Park in Cobourg. FAN’s free outdoor gala will feature the award-winning Murdoch Mysteries Executive Producer and CEO of Shaftesbury, Christina Jennings.

The AGN and FAN are committed to working with local businesses and arts and cultural organizations. Spotlight Series is the AGN’s signature fundraiser, celebrating emergent and recognized local artists in support of arts education. Typically held in-house, Spotlight Series went digital in 2021. This third season features Kate Boothman, Cale Crowe, Oli Goldsmith, Kate Hessin, Ian Jack, and Jennifer Trefiak sharing their stories, passion and process in a half-hour “mini doc” of artist profiles. Spotlight Series has always been made possible by the participation of its featured artists, the support of local sponsors, and this year, the Ontario Trillium Foundation Resilient Communities grant.

“Support for the arts is vital and the momentum in arts partnerships is promising for ensuring a robust cultural sector in Northumberland county that honours the importance of art in our lives,” says series producer Elizabeth Palermo.

“FAN is delighted to showcase the Spotlight Series 3 at this year’s Festival. The Series is a perfect fit with FAN’s goals of advancing arts education and providing opportunities for filmmakers, artists, musicians, and performers to connect with our enthusiastic Northumberland film audiences. We look forward to these six wonderful films and meeting the artists that inspired them,” says Ross Pigeau, Chair of Film Access Northumberland.

Film Access Northumberland (FAN) is a not-for-profit organization that seeks to promote community, tolerance and
understanding through the art of film. Through a variety of film-based events like the Eye2Eye International Film
Festival, FAN connects Northumberland to world-class talent and films, and presents local and diverse talent to Canada’s wider film community. For more information about the Eye2Eye International Film Festival or FAN please visit: www.filmaccessnorthumberland.com.
