The reopening of the Victoria Park beach and what form it might take will be up for discussion at Cobourg council’s July 26 meeting.

Councillor Nicole Beatty this week submitted the notice of motion, which will reconsider the decision to close the beach that council made on May 31.

Beatty also made a motion to suspend the rules of order to permit a discussion of the matter that same night, but this particular motion requires a two-thirds majority to pass – meaning that, on the seven-member council, five councillors would have to vote in support. The motion failed, with Mayor John Henderson, Deputy Mayor Suzanne Seguin and Councillor Emily Chorley voting against it.

The motion to suspend the rules of order having failed, council passed the notice of motion Beatty originally put on the table.
