Peterborough Police Service and the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to address a letter circulating that involves an investigation that originated in the City of Peterborough and relates to threats against medical staff in the City of Peterborough and a medical office in North Kawartha Township.
Peterborough Police Service has responded to the complaints and are not ignoring the threats as indicated in the letter being circulated. Peterborough Police Service also asked that the accused in these matters NOT be given bail.
Peterborough Police Service initiated an investigation after being made a ware of threats against staff at a medical clinic in the City of Peterborough on June 3rd, 2021. As a result of the investigation a 57-year-old North Kawartha Township woman was arrested that day (June 3, 2021) and charged with uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm X2. At the time the accused was released on an undertaking and given a court date. Through further investigation officers learned about more threats to medical staff at a clinic in North Kawartha and to medical staff in the City of Peterborough. Officers further charged the accused with four additional counts for uttering threats on June 15th, 2021. Later that day, Peterborough County OPP arrested the accused on the charges and returned her to the Peterborough Police Service. At that time, she was held in custody and appeared in court on June 15th, 2021 at which time the courts released her on bail. The matter is currently before the courts.
Peterborough Polic e Service is continuing to investigate these matters.
