City of Kawartha Lakes Police – Six People Charged Under the Reopening Act

Six people charged under the Reopening Ontario Act since February 5, 2021
Traffic stop
On February 5, 2021 at 10:47pm the City of Kawartha Lakes Police Service observed a suspicious vehicle on Setters Road in Ops Twp. A traffic stop was initiated, the identities of all four occupants in the vehicle were obtained. Through investigation, the officer determined that the driver was unlicenced and had taken the vehicle without the consent of the owner. The driver has been charged with, driving without a licence under the Highway Traffic Act and cautioned for taking motor vehicle without consent under the Criminal Code.
All occupants in the vehicle were charged with failing to comply with a continued section 7.0.2 order, contrary to the Reopening Ontario Act and issued an $880 ticket.

On February 6, 2021 at 11:14pm the City of Kawartha Lakes Police Service observed a vehicle travelling on Lindsay Street South in Lindsay without its headlights on. The vehicle was stopped, while speaking with the driver a strong odour of cannabis was detected. As a result of an investigation, the identities of all occupants in the vehicle were obtained. Two occupants have been charged under the Cannabis Control Act, with person under 19-year possess cannabis. Two occupants in the vehicle were charged with failing to comply with a continued section 7.0.2 order, contrary to the Reopening Ontario Act and issued an $880 ticket.

Suspicious persons call
On February 9, 2021 at 3:34am the City of Kawartha Lakes Police were called to investigated suspicious individuals at a Lindsay Street North address. As a result of the investigation, two individuals were located and were charged with failing to comply with a continued section 7.0.2 order, contrary to the Reopening Ontario Act and issued an $880 ticket.
