Northumberland OPP – Traffic Stop Results In Impaired Charge

In Police Blotter

(MUNICIPALITY OF BRIGHTON, ON) – On Sunday January 31, 2021, at approximately 11:30 p.m, uniformed officers from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), stopped a red Dodge four door sedan that was travelling Southbound on County Road 30 near the hamlet of Codrington for a Highway Traffic Act offence. Upon speaking with the driver, officers detected an odour of an alcoholic beverage. A Roadside Screening Device (ASD) was administered to the vehicle operator at the scene resulting in a “fail”. The driver was arrested, then transported to the OPP Detachment in Brighton for further testing.

As a result of those tests Donald MEACOCK (age 34) of Trent Hills, Ontario, has been charged with:

· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
· Speeding

The driver received an immediate 90-day driver’s licence suspension and the vehicle was towed and impounded for 7 days.

The accused was released and is expected to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on February 17, 2021.

The OPP remains committed to enforcing impaired driving laws and educating road users about the dangers posed by motorists who drive while impaired by alcohol or drugs. Drivers need to remember that any amount of alcohol or drugs can impair one’s ability to drive. Do your part in keeping our roads safe by planning ahead and arranging for a safe ride home.

If you know or suspect that a driver may be impaired by alcohol or drugs immediately call 9-1-1.
