During the month of December 2020, as part of the Cobourg Police Service Selected Traffic Enforcement Initiative Program (S.T.E.P.), police conducted increased enforcement of impaired
driving through the Festive Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) program.
Uniform officers, with the assistance of special constables and auxiliary officers, stopped a total of 1,867 vehicles.
In December, 30 Highway traffic Act (H.T.A.) cautions were issued, one H.T.A. charge and five Criminal Impaired related charges were laid.

Cobourg Police encourage the public to report suspected impaired driving by calling 911 and commit to driving sober. Make a plan – designate a sober driver, call a cab, call a friend, or stay the night.
Although the Cobourg Police Service STEP initiative is put on hold until further notice to help prevent mtransmission of the coronavirus, the Cobourg Police Service remains committed to road safety and maintain enforcement as required to keep roads safe for everyone.
