Update – Northumberland OPP Investigate Graffitti – Related Mischief in Harwood

In Police Blotter

Members from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently investigating an incident of graffiti-related mischief that occurred at the Harwood Dock, located at Railway Road and Front Street in Hamilton Township.

The exact time frame in which this mischief occurred is unknown, but police were notified of the incident on Sunday October 4, 2020. Unknown suspect(s) used black spray paint to deface a rock at the west side of the pier with a swastika symbol and the letters “KKK”. A no parking sign, a plaque and the Harwood Dock sign were also defaced with black spray paint.

This investigation is ongoing and the Northumberland detachment Hate Crimes Officer has been notified.

Mischief is a costly criminal offence for the Township, it ties up police resources and negatively impacts the community as a whole.
Today’s Northumberland has also learned the previous week, there was vandalism spray painted with racial tones.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Northumberland OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477). When you contact Crime Stoppers you remain anonymous, you will never have to testify and you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
